[P]olice received a report on 14th April 2017 that at around 7:30pm in Wigton that an 11-year-old child was approached by two men in a car.

An investigation was launched and it was subsequently established that the incident was not as initially reported. Two local men who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released with no further action.

DC Matthews from West Cumbria CID said: “There has been discussion about this report on social media, and I would like to reassure the public that there was no risk to any children.

“However, I urge anyone who does see anything suspicious to report it so that it can be investigated. Keeping children safe is one of our top priorities, and we will investigate any reports of suspicious activity thoroughly.”

Anyone who would like to report suspicious activity should call Cumbria Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
