Penrith fell runner dies on Lake District mountain

[A] fell runner has died after taking part in a fell race on Loughrigg.

Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were called at 7:27pm yesterday, Wednesday 19 April.

A spokesman for Langdale and Ambleside MRT said: “Sadly, he was declared to have died at the scene and his body was recovered to Ambleside.

“The team wishes to pass its best wishes to the runner’s family, friends and the close-knit fell running community.”

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: “We were called at 7.24pm yesterday (19 April) to alert the Constabulary that a man in his 30s had collapsed whilst running a Loughrigg fell race.

“The man, who was from the Penrith area has subsequently died.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious.”
