[A] FORMER scout master is facing prison for sexually abusing a number of young boys.

Norman Thompson, 66, pleaded guilty to 10 charges of indecently assaulting a male person when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (MON).

He had previously admitted 19 other indecent assault charges, and one further count of making indecent photographs of a child.

Thompson’s historical offending is said to cover a period spanning three decades, between 1984 and 2000, and relates to seven different victims – the youngest of whom is said to have been aged 11.

Thompson is set to be sentenced for all of his crimes at the crown court on Friday of this week.

At the end of today’s 15-minute hearing Judge Peter Davies granted conditional bail to Thompson, of Belted Will Close, Wigton, after hearing that it would enable him to “get his affairs in order”.

But Judge Davies told him: “Although I am bailing you, you can’t understand there will be anything other than a custodial sentence.”
