fireenginefront[A]t 11:31am today, Tuesday 9 May firefighters were called to a large fire at a garage at Salthouse Mills Industrial Estate, Barrow-in-Furness.

The industrial building was well alight on arrival.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Five fire engines have been sent to the incident which is ongoing.

“Police are attending for traffic management.

“The public are advised to avoid the area if possible.

“People who live near to the fire are advised to stay inside with their windows and doors shut.”

“The buildings were apparently used as garages and firefighters are currently cooling cylinders at the premises.

“Four ground water monitors, one hose reel and two main water jets were used to fight this fire at its height.

“The aerial ladder platform was also used as a water tower.”

All roads have now reopened.
