[T]WO young men who tried to kick their way into a flat on Christmas Day have been sentenced by a judge.

Leon Joseph Joubert, 21, and Jordan James Black, 19, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (MON).

Both pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted burglary following an incident on December 25 last year. This occurred inside a block of flats in Cockermouth.

Having disguised their faces, Joubert and Black kicked a hole in the front door of an empty property in search of a phone charger. Around £300 damage was caused.

Both men were given 12-month community orders with attendance centre and rehabilitation requirements.

Black, who also admitted a public order offence – committed on December 28 – was ordered to complete 100 hours’ unpaid work in addition.

Recorder David Swinnerton told Joubert, of Greysouthern, Cockermouth, and Black, of Arlecdon Road, Frizington, their break-in bid was “reckless and stupid”.
