[F]ootball stars of the future were brought to the Lake District for a day of team-building, and there wasn’t a ball kicked all day.

The youngsters of the Manchester United under-18 squad came to try sports of a different kind when they had a go at abseiling and kayaking, thanks to an Ambleside-based safety team.

The experts at Event Safety Group were in charge of the young soccer players who spent a day in the Lakes to help work better together as a team.

Said director Nick Wright: “It’s true that most of our time is spent helping on the fells, trails and in the water, but we can assist with any outdoor event with any kinds of sportspeople.

“Event organisers in all kinds of sports know they can rely on our track record when they want peace of mind in their safety management.”

Nick and his staff enjoyed their day with the United youngsters. “Who knows if there might be a record-breaking goal-scorer among them, but they were pretty nimble on a rock face.”

Event Safety Group deal with safety and event management for a wide range of sports. “We’ve worked with Red Bull, and with horse racing as well as mountain biking and obstacle course races,” said Nick.

“We’ve been on duty at photo shoots, at corporate team building events, and at trail races, triathlons and open water swimming.”

Another out-of-the-ordinary request came from the organisers of a charity boxing event who had been let down by their equipment supplier.

“We were able to provide medical equipment to their doctor so that their tournament could go ahead,” said Nick. “We have the expertise to apply bespoke safety solutions which we can tailor to any situation and the widest possible range of outdoor sporting events.”
