The public are being invited to have their say in naming the new centre being built on the site of the former Alfred Barrow School to provide health and care services.
NHS England and NHS Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group (CCCG) are giving the public, patients and staff three options to choose from:
- Alfred Barrow Health Centre
- Alfred Barrow Primary Care Centre
- Alfred Barrow Community Health and Care Hub
People can have their say by taking part in the poll on Morecambe Bay CCGs Facebook or Twitter pages, by emailing [email protected] or by simply posting their choice in the voting boxes, located in Abbey Road Surgery, Atkinson Health Centre or Risedale Surgery – the three surgeries moving into the centre.
As well as bringing together the primary and community health services provided by the three GP surgeries listed above, the new centre will also include services by Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust and house facilities for the North West Ambulance Service and BAE Systems.
GP Dr Geoff Jolliffe, Barrow GP and NHS Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group Clinical Chair said: “We really want the public to be involved in helping us choose a name for the new primary care facility, so I urge everyone to have their say.
“The Alfred Barrow School is well known to local people so keeping Alfred Barrow in the naming of this centre is something that’s very important to us and the history of the area.
“This is a really exciting part of the project and I’m thrilled that we are now at this stage. Bringing all these health services together will be a huge boost for the people of Barrow.”
Voting for the poll closes on Friday 2 November.
Work on the new centre is due to complete in spring 2019. It will be a modern facility, housing the GP surgeries and community health services in one building whilst preserving the oldest part of the Victorian Alfred Barrow School building. The Centre will be easy to access and have ample parking.
David Walker, Medical Director, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Many organisations have been working hard on bringing this vision into reality. This centre will bring together multitude of services all under one roof which will improve care for patients and the community.”
