The countdown to Christmas is underway in Carlisle.
A packed programme of events is planned alongside free parking in city centre Carlisle City Council car parks on Late Night Thursday. The festive Carlisle programme includes:

A special offer is available for shoppers visiting Carlisle this festive season. Carlisle City Council is providing FREE parking after 3pm on the following Thursdays: 22 and 29 November & 6, 13 and 20 December in the following city centre car parks: Bitts Park; Caldew Riverside; Castle; Civic Centre; Lowther Street; Paddy’s Market; Swifts Bank; The Sands; Viaduct and West Walls.
The Lanes Shopping Centre will also be holding a Late Night Shopping launch event on Thursday 22 November between 9am and 9pm. There will be a range of independent food and drink stalls throughout The Lanes offering hot food, drinks and unique gifts. From 5pm, there will be entertainment, music and Santa will be in his grotto in Centre Square.
Don’t forget to visit Tipsy Filly in Centre Square to claim your free glass of mulled wine before they are all gone! They are also offering FREE PARKING for one night only! Come between 6-9pm and you won’t pay a penny parking in The Lanes car park.
Carlisle Christmas Market
Carlisle city centre is set to welcome a bustling open-air festive market comprising more than 50 local traders and producers from across the Borderlands region, alongside local community groups.
The Carlisle Christmas Artisan Market will be held between Wednesday 28 November and Sunday 2 December in the pedestrianised area outside the City’s Old Town Hall.
The market has been organised by local community organisation Sustainable Brampton in partnership with Carlisle City Council and Food Carlisle.
The opening times are:
- 11am – 6.30pm: Wednesday 28 November; Friday 30 November and Saturday 1 December.
- 11am – 9pm: Thursday 29 November.
- 11am – 4pm: Sunday 2 December.

Carlisle Market Hall Festive Fun Day
Market Hall – Saturday 8 December, 11am – 3pm
Carlisle’s Victorian Covered Market Hall will be filled with Christmas cheer on when it stages its Festive Fun Day. Santa and friends will be there alongside children’s entertainers. There will also be the chance to WIN a festive voucher prize.

Santa Dash
Sunday 9 December
The city’s annual Santa Dash and Fun Run are festive fun events to raise money for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s only children’s hospice. The Santa Dash is a 5k for runners in Santa suits. It starts near the Sheepmount Athletics Stadium, takes in a route around the city centre and finishes close to the cathedral in Castle Street. The 2k Fun Run/Walk starts in Victoria Park and also finishes in Castle Street. Santa suits are provided to all entrants. There are elf suits or Santa hats for those aged three to five. Entry for under-fives is free. The event is organised by Sport in Action along with the DH Runners and Carlisle Tri Club and is supported by local businesses. Christmas Carol Parade
St Cuthbert’s Church – Thursday 13 December, starting at 6.15pm
This popular event will also include carol singing in the city centre followed by a Hog Roast in the historic Tithe Barn. Tickets for the Hog Roast will available on the night of the event.
Tullie House Family Fun Weekend
Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 December: 11am – 4pm
