Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers is calling on locals and councillors to support the campaign to save and restore Grange Lido.

Myers grew up in Barrow and was a regular visitor to the open-air swimming pool on Grange Promenade.

“I remember going to Grange Baths in my younger days. The pool was amazing and when it closed 25 years it was a huge loss to the community. I have so many wonderful memories of my time there which is why I’m supporting this campaign to Save Grange Lido.”

Save Grange Lido are a group of locals who are campaigning to reopen the pool which has been derelict 25 years. Current South Lakeland District Council Proposals involve restoring the grade ii listed buildings but filling in the pool. Following a local petition to retain the pool, a debate of the full council will take place on 18th December.

Dave Myers said: “I’d love to see the Lido open again, thriving, serving the local community and bringing people to our wonderful part of the world. Please support my friends at Save Grange Lido who are crowdfunding to restore this stunning art deco landmark. Let’s get this place back to its former glory.”

Phil Bradby, chairman of Save Grange Lido said: “Dave Myers, like many of us who grew up in this wonderful part of the world, has fond memories of swimming in this incredible pool. It would be amazing for the generation growing up in the area now to be able to enjoy the Lido again. Our plans include a cafe, restaurant, commercial space and spa facilities alongside the restored 50 metre swimming pool. It will become a place for the local community to enjoy as well as a major attraction for visitors to the area, giving a significant boost to the local economy.”
