Everything must go as the owners of a North Cumbrian pub embark on a year-long re-build of their premises.

The Golden Fleece Inn, at Ruleholme, near Brampton, closed in October. It is set to be demolished with a state-of-the-art replacement inn, restaurant, 23 bedrooms and associated facilities rising from the rubble.

Fixtures and fittings from the original pub will be auctioned off on Sunday February 3 after two days of viewings.

Everything from catering equipment, to tables and chairs, light fittings and decorations are set to go under the hammer.

It marks the end of one era for owners Robert and Sylvia Cowan – and the start of a new one.

The couple took over the popular inn and restaurant in 2011 and are now working with partners on plans for a new development which also includes a function suite and micro-brewery.

Owner chef Robert said: “I guess there will be a few emotions when it comes to the auction day. But we’re very much focussed on the future and this is the next step on that journey.”

Alongside the kitchen units, uniforms and candelabras there’ll be one item the couple definitely will be missing – Lady BaaBaa.

Sylvia said: “It was a lovely picture that hung by the side of the door as people came into the bar. We had a competition with the customers to name it and so Lady BaaBaa was born.”

Anyone interested in the sale can attend viewing days at the pub on Friday February 1 between 10am and 3pm Saturday February 2 between 8.30am and 3pm.

Tony Bell, of Greymoor Barn Emporium, will be the auctioneer.

He said: “We are literally selling everything from the fire escape to the tea spoons. It’s unusual to get a sale like this where everything must go. They don’t come up often at all.

“Because of that we’ve already had a lot of interest, we’ve had inquiries about the bars and there’s a lot on offer that will get attention. There’s no reserve on anything, everything must go.”

Robert will be cooking burgers and breakfast sandwiches on sale day at the pub. Doors open 8.30am with the sale scheduled for 10am.

A planning application for the new Golden Fleece is likely be considered by Carlisle City Council’s development control committee in February.
