AN AUDIOLOGISTS in Carlisle has pledged to raise £1,000 for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf in 2019.
Specsavers on Castle Street made the pledge as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare organisations. The team is planning on a series of fundraisers in the coming months.
Hearing aid dispensers Stuart Ryan and Lisa McCall will be taking part in this year’s Gelt Gladiator on 9 June, the 6 kilometre long mud-filled obstacle course in Cumbria, to help raise extra cash.
Stuart Ryan said: “Training and providing care for hearing dogs doesn’t come cheap. We’re a small department and we’re delighted to be able to do anything we can to support this very worthy cause.
“Seeing the impact a pair hearing aids can have for an individual can be very moving, as people are once again able communicate with those around them.
“Hearing Dogs can also alert people to vital sounds such as smoke alarms and traffic. They can give that person the confidence they need to be able to lead a fulfilling and independent life.”
