Police have confirmed that a 35-year-old man’s body has been located in the early hours of today (June 4) at Chambers Crag.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A search operation was conducted for Chris Brown, from Whitehaven, following concerns for his welfare which were reported to police at 9.48pm yesterday (June 3).
“The circumstances of Mr Brown’s death are not believed to be suspicious.
“The family of the deceased have been informed.
“Mr Brown’s family have requested that people respect their privacy at this difficult time.”
A spokesman for Wasdale MRT said: “The team called by Police about a walker reported missing from a trip up Scafell Pike.
“As the walker was on their own a search was mounted over night to try to locate them.
“Team members from Wasdale and Duddon teams searched areas around Scafell Pike.
“Around 0600 the Duddon team made a find under Chambers Crag on the east face of Scafell Pike.
“Due to the difficult location further support was requested and the Cockermouth Team also joined the rescue along with the Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon.
“Unfortunately the walker did not survive their injuries and are thoughts are with their family and friends.”
