Man remanded in custody after drugs and cash seized in Workington

Police officers on patrol in Workington stopped a ‘hire van’ in the Salterbeck area around 10pm on Tuesday September 17.

The driver, Shahram Mansoory Roodbani, 39, appeared from custody at Carlisle Magistrates Court charged with possession of class A drug heroin, with intent to supply it to others.

Roodbani gave his address as Ruby Road, Salterbeck, he is also charged with acquire/use/posses criminal property.

During a short hearing the court was told the allegations are related to drug dealing, it was also alleged a large amount of heroin was found on his person when searched.

He is also accused of having over £35k in cash the allegation is, this is believed to have come from money-laundering activities prosecutor Andy Travis told the court.

Roodbani gave his nationality as Iranian with family in the area, no-pleas were entered today, magistrates declined jurisdiction and he was remanded in custody to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on October 21, for a plea and case presentation hearing.
