There was a healthy boost to funds for Cancer Research UK during British Food Fortnight when a cheque for £5,000 was presented on behalf of The Lakes Free Range Egg Company.
The donation was timed to co-inside with British Food Fortnight and was presented to Cancer Research UK at the Booths Penwortham store.
The pink egg brand ‘Laid With Love’ has seen sales grow across the north. Booths shoppers putting Laid With Love® eggs into their trollies, have helped raise a healthy sum for cancer research – with the latest donation of £5,000 being handed over to chosen charity Cancer Research UK during British Food Fortnight.
The Laid With Love® brand was created by The Lakes Free Range Egg Company near Penrith; the eggs are produced in and around Cumbria on family run farms. The hens are fed on an enriched diet that includes Lutein (a Marigold extract), which is a natural antioxidant. It gives the yolks a naturally rich golden yolk.
The brand pledges to donate 2p per dozen to cancer research and the latest cheque for £5,000 was presented to Cancer Research UK by Rebekkah Minchin-Hepburn, Sales Director at The Lakes, alongside the Booths Penwortham store manager Natalie Duckworth.
During the cheque presentation, conversation around cancer highlighted just how far reaching cancer can be. All those present have seen colleagues, family or friends affected by the disease.
The cheque was accepted by Cancer Research UK Local Fundraising Manger Vikki Bassek, who said “We would like to say a huge thank you to The Lakes Free Range Egg Company for their generous donation of £5,000. It will contribute towards our vital research that is helping to beat cancer sooner.”
David Brass Chief Executive Officer at The Lakes Free Range Egg Company said “We’re pleased to see our Laid With Love range extending across Booths stores. For consumers it delivers on lots of levels – from ensuring the best of British, ethical and environmental provenance, to creating a really healthy, tasty egg that goes a step further to support cancer research.
“Laid With Love is a great British brand produced in a very ethical and sustainable way. It’s something consumers are switched on to and pledging a donation to charity makes it even more appealing. We’re delighted that we could arrange the presentation to coincide with British Food Fortnight – it pays to buy British.”
Eggs are part of our everyday healthy diet – they are a real ‘superfood’ and sales continue to rise. During 2018 egg sales grew by 4% – that’s 240 million additional eggs, compared to the year before. This has been helped by consumers looking for healthier options and the rise of more flexitarian diets.
