Andrew Wilson, Chair of Hawkshead Christmas Fair reflects back on this year’s event and looks ahead to 2020, saying, ‘Despite poor weather the fair was a great success, we have many people who love Hawkshead and the wonderful seasonal atmosphere that comes with our Christmas Fair and they come and support us year after year. Planning is well under way for next year’s fair on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December 2020 to ensure we make it another successful event.’
This year saw the first ever Christmas lights switch on event, it was enjoyed by everyone who came and far exceeded our expectations. Father Christmas switched on the many lights throughout the village using his special “magic light dust” followed by an amazing number of lanterns and the Bay Beat Marching band. It culminated in the village square with carol singing lead by the local church community choir. It was the villages first lights switch on but certainly won’t be the last.
Hawkshead is home to wonderful cosy pubs, the renowned Hawkshead Relish Shop, Beatrix Potter Gallery and Hawkshead Grammar School whose most famous pupil was William Wordsworth, plus many lovely independent shops making it a fascinating place to visit all year round. The annual Christmas Fair brings together this special community where the festive spirit shines through, whatever the weather.
