Cumbrian Homes to cease housebuilding

Cumbrian Homes Ltd, based in Penrith, is to cease housebuilding after 49-years at the end of July.

Up until recently, Cumbrian Homes was in the process of being sold. The business was to continue “as normal” under the new ownership. However, due in no small part to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, the preferred buyer is now unable to proceed as planned. Cumbrian Homes have, therefore, taken the decision to cease housebuilding activities and make all staff redundant.

Cumbrian Homes was formed in 1971 and from the beginning recognised the importance of quality house building, ensuring they developed a solid reputation in Cumbria. Building with a high specification throughout they created the highest quality homes that buyers have come to expect.

Cumbrian Homes was initially a division of a larger Civil Engineering company, Cumbrian Industrials Ltd, responsible for larger commercial projects and infrastructure development as well as residential housing throughout the North of England.

From small developments and conversions Cumbrian Homes went from strength to strength, going on to build the ‘Carleton Heights’ development in Penrith, which won awards on more than one occasion; that development started their first venture into more bespoke properties.

Building on that success, Cumbrian Homes continued the trend of building some of the highest quality and environmentally friendly homes on the market. They led the way in new technology, working with British Gypsum to develop new and innovative building materials, 3D floor plans and designs and implementing 360 degrees virtual tours of their homes.

Managing Director Nigel Pallister said: “I’d like to think we set a precedent for building the highest quality homes, listening to our customers and leading the way in building developments. We’ve had a fantastic time and built up and excellent team who we are sad to see go. We want to take this opportunity to thank all our customers, suppliers and valued staff, without whom none of this would have been possible.”

Cumbrian Homes have assured current home owners that any warranties are still valid with the LABC or NHBC.

The business will cease housebuilding on Friday 31st July.
