
Joseph Ghayouba has been elected to represent the Whitehaven Central ward on Copeland Borough Council.
Labour Party candidate Mr Ghayouba, of Loop Road, Whitehaven, topped the polls in the by-election held yesterday.
The votes cast for each candidate were:
- William Robert Clive Spencer Dixon, Conservative Party, 542
- William Robert Dixon, Heritage Party: Free Speech and Liberty, 45
- Richard Ian William Donnan, Independent, 90
- Joseph Ghayouba, Labour Party, 633
- Mike Minogue, Liberal Democrats, 18
The turnout was 29.9 per cent.
Mr Ghayouba said: “I am delighted that residents of Whitehaven Central have put their trust in me and I intend to be a strong voice for them on Copeland Council.”
