Police have pleaded with parents to speak to their children and educate them on the the consequences of making hoax calls after three patrols were called out unnecessarily.
Copeland Police issued a statement detailing that they had received two hoax 999 calls on Monday night and that they dispatched three patrols to the Cleator Moor area to establish if there was a genuine emergency.
“This diverted officers away from people who genuinely needed us and it can cost lives,” said the statement.
“Officers from Copeland Proactive team positively identified and dealt with three youths who were making the calls from the telephone kiosk on Cleator square.
“We cannot stress enough that hoax calls can cost lives, please speak to your children and educate them on the consequences of making such calls.”
