The top five teams in the race for the Cumbria Cricket League’s Premier Division title are kept apart in the latest round of fixtures.
It’s a particularly important weekend for Cockermouth as they play twice, giving them the opportunity to catch up on leaders Furness.
They travel to Millom on Saturday and then 24 hours later host Lindal Moor in the game that was postponed because of COVID-19 infection at the south Cumbrian club.
Millom, in particular, will be a test but having lost their Higson Cup semi-final last Sunday to Workington, Gareth White’s men will be determined to make up for it with progress in the league. They will, however, have to tackle Lindal without three key players who are on duty with Cumbria – Paul Hindmarch, Matthew Sempill and Sam Sharp.
Workington might be labouring in the league but in the shorter formats have excelled. They are through to the Higson Cup final and lead the northern section of the T20.
On Saturday they travel to West Cumbrian rivals Whitehaven who look a stronger unit than when the two last met earlier in the season.
Keswick are lying second at the moment and they will be looking to maintain the pressure on Furness when they host Haverigg at Fitz Park.
As for Furness, they will be expecting to keep their lead at the top of the table as they travel to the bottom side Dalton.
Carlisle, who had a disappointing weekend on three fronts, are back at Edenside for the visit of neighbours Wigton amidst what is yet another festival of cricket at the go-ahead club.
Cleator are still in with a shout after some very good performances of late and they will be expecting to keep that going at home to Lindal Moor.
On Friday night there are three games in the northern group of the T20 and Workington have home advantage against Cleator, who still have to gain their first point in this competition.
Wigton host Cockermouth and Whitehaven entertain Keswick.
