Workington Reds suffered a major blow after their 3-0 home friendly defeat by Carlisle United.
Striker Scott Allison, who has scored more goals for the club than any other player in the last 80 years, was hurt in a freak accident.
In the tunnel after the final whistle Allison was taking his sweat-soaked shirt off when he dislocated his shoulder.
It’s the third time he has suffered the injury, and the second occasion was also from a non-playing incident when he threw a tennis ball before training.
The original injury came during a game at Stafford in January 2019.
Acting manager Steven Rudd said: “The physios tried to put the shoulder back in but couldn’t sohe went through to the West Cumberland Hospital.
“It was put back there but clearly there are concerns now about how regular it comes back out.
“He’s waiting for a scan and it will probably mean it needs pinned which is going tokeep himout at the start of the season.”
Rudd also gave some more information on the midfield trialist Liam Smith who played for the first-half against Carlisle.
“He was at Newcastle for a number of years and played for their Under-23’s. He went on loan to Crewe where he was injured without playing.
“Unfortunately he’s needed a couple of operations and was forced to retire. He hasn’t played for almost two years but wants to give it another go. Under the really hot conditions he did well to last 45minutes.
“He’s clearly been a good player and we intend to look again at Consett on Saturday but with a new manager coming in we can’t over commit,” he said.
Indeed Reds are hoping to have their new manager in place during the week ahead of the Consett game.
