Plans for Cumbria’s first drive-thru Greggs have been revealed, which would create 20 jobs.
The bakery chain wants to create the drive-thru on an empty plot at the Beehive Business Park in Ulverston.
It has submitted plans to South Lakeland District Council for the land, opposite the new Blue Light Hub and visible from the A590.
The planning application shows a drive-thru lane and parking for 16 cars, including three disabled spaces.
Seating areas would also be provided inside and out, along with toilets.
A statement submitted as part of the application said: “This proposal results in no loss of employment space as the site has not yet been developed and so makes zero contribution to the economy at the current time.
“Furthermore, it is expected that Greggs will provide 20 jobs (two full-time and 18 part-time), making a significant contribution to the economy, in addition supporting the uses in the wider area particularly the Blue Light Hub.”
Greggs said it would get rid of waste and recycling packaging through current council waste management plans and pledged to undertake its own litter picking to keep the nearby area clear of discarded packaging.
This week, the plans were shared with councillors at a meeting of Ulverston Town Council.
The chain plans to open Monday to Saturday between 6.30am and 8pm and Sunday 8am to 6pm.
Greggs currently has one central location in Ulverston, with the next nearest in Dalton.
