Faced with the prospect of more rain pigeon racing Federations in the west of the county have abandoned plans to race this weekend.
Both the Derwent Valley and West Cumberland organisation had put back their race by 24 hours in the hopes of a Sunday liberation but that has now been cancelled.
The problem is that rain is forecast every day between now and next weekend when the two Federations are due to liberate together from Appleton.
In a message to their members the Derwent Valley Federation said: “Sunday’s weather is not good enough to race young pigeons. We will keep looking to see if there is any improvement on Monday.
“At the moment Tuesday is looking far the best day and we will update later.”
The Derwent Valley need to get in races from Garstang and Charnock Richard before they can go for a simultaneous liberation from Appleton with their West Cumberland neighbours.
The West Cumberland Federation got in a race from Garstang on Tuesday and now are looking to fit in a race from Charnock Richard.
Like the Derwent Valley they see Tuesday as the best chance of a race and plan to basket on Monday night for a liberation the following day.
