Seven people have been arrested after fighting broke out in Appleby.

The incident happened at The Sands at about 4.30pm this afternoon, August 13, near The Grapes.

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of affray and two men have been arrested on suspicion of public order offences.

A number of people involved suffered cuts and bruises and facial injuries, police said, although it was currently believed that no-one suffered injuries more significant than this.

Superintendent Matt Kennerley said: “Our officers acted swiftly and made a significant number of arrests at the scene.

“This incident will be investigated fully. There is zero tolerance for anyone who makes the decision to travel to Appleby and behave violently.”

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed what occurred or who has video footage to contact them immediately.

Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit, quoting incident number 173 of 13th August 2021, call 101.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
