A teen found guilty of rape and sex offences will spend two years at a youth offenders institute.
The boy, who cannot be named because he is under 18, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court for sentencing and was also handed a five-year sexual harm prevention and a five-year restraining order against the girl and placed on the sex offenders register for five years.
The boy, aged in his late teens, was found guilty of two counts of rape, inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity and assaulting a female 13 and over by penetration at an earlier hearing.
The offences took place in Carlisle in February 2020.
Detective Constable Jake Reed said: “I hope that the victim can take some comfort that the offender has been put before the courts and sentenced.
“Anyone can be the victim of rape or sexual assault and the effects on a victim can be devastating and traumatising. The families of those involved are often affected by the trauma too.
“We understand that it can be a scary and confusing time but all victims will be treated professionally and with sensitivity so we would always encourage people to report any such offences.
“There is also support out there. Do not suffer in silence.”
