
A driver who was arrested following a crash that left four people seriously injured has been released under investigation.
Emergency services were called at about 8.45am yesterday to a collision involving an HGV and a Nissan Duke on the A590 near Levens.
The driver of the Nissan, a 44-year-old man, and a 40-year-old female passenger were taken to the Preston Royal Hospital with serious injuries.
Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 13, were both airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. The 15-year-old was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool and the 13-year-old to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
All four remain in a serious but stable condition.
The road was closed in both directions for most of the day while recovery work and investigations took place.
The driver of the HGV, a 28-year-old man from Lancaster, was uninjured. He was arrested in connection with the collision and has since been released under investigation.
