Cleator Moor Celtic are preparing for an anticipated record modern-day crowd at Birks Road tomorrow.
The Cumbrians host unbeaten Bury AFC who lead the North West Counties League Division One North with four wins and a draw.
Bury AFC was formed after the demise of the Football League club and they are hoping to climb back through the pyramid system.
Celtic manager Martin Mahone said: “We have been told that they are going to bring between 200 and 400 supporters, and as there’s a lot of interest on the Moor we are expecting a bumper crowd.
“I don’t think there will have been as many on the ground in recent times but the club did have some good Cup runs many years ago.”
In the 1950/51 season Celtic got all the way to the first round of the FA Cup but the game with Tranmere (lost 5-0) was played at Workington’s Borough Park.
Bury have pulled 1,200 plus crowds for their two home games so far and have boosted attendances for away games through their strong following.
“Naturally we are looking forward to entertaining a famous name in English football. People have been talking about it since the fixtures came out.
“They have won all three away games, scoring ten and conceding four, and obviously have some decent players.
“We won’t be at our strongest as we have a couple of players away.
“Because of relaxations in COVID restrictions we are finding families are wanting to take a break and have a holiday, and that’s affecting us at the moment. But we can’t blame them.
“Everybody is keen to do well in the game and we will still have a committed and competitive side on the field.”
