Belle Vue have confirmed their West Cumbrian racer Dan Bewley has been ruled out of their team planning for 2022.

Bewley’s contract in the Polish Ekstraliga with champions Wroclaw limits him to racing in one other league elsewhere, and he has recently agreed a deal with Swedish club Smederna.

The Maryport-based Bewley has just had the most successful season in his short speedway career, which included a World team title with Great Britain.

Aces director of speedway Mark Lemon said: “I must say it’s been quite a journey, but we understand and respect the fact that Dan is a young man looking for new challenges in 2022.

“And whilst we are disappointed to be losing him because of circumstances forced by the Polish regulations, Dan has ticked almost all of the boxes at the club in such a short time in Manchester.

“He has become a huge part of this club since the moment he first put on our race jacket for the Colts, and subsequently for the Aces too.

“I’m sure I speak for all of us, the owners, management and supporters, in saying thank you to Dan for his great services to Belle Vue. He will be genuinely missed both on and off the track.”

Another West Cumbrian, Kyle Bickley will again be on double duty with Berwick in 2022 after signing for both of the Shielfield Park club’s teams.

Workington-based Bickley, like Bewley a former Workington Comets rider, will continue with the Bandits at Championship level and has also been confirmed as skipper of the Bullets in the National Development League.

Co-promoter Jamie Courtney said: “We are really excited to bring Kyle back to Shielfield Park in 2022.

“An interesting fact is that he has never been given the chance to race for the same Championship club for two seasons in a row before, and we all firmly believe that this opportunity will help give him the confidence in his surroundings to make the progress in his career that is inevitable.

“Kyle was the real deal for the Bullets in 2021 and he really started banging in some impressive wins in the Championship too.

“Having Bomber (Chris Harris) in the side, one of Britain’s greatest ever racers can only help Kyle’s career trajectory and we are very proud to welcome him back to not only an exciting Bandits side but also as the skipper for the 2022 Bullets team.”
