Barrow Raiders have resigned popular Dan Toal on a new two-year deal, starting on their return to the Championship.
The 32-year-old workaholic forward will have completed 12 years with the club when that contract is at an end.
Toal came through the amateur game with Ulverston before making the step up into the professional ranks with Barrow in the 2012 season, making his debut against Leigh in February of that year.
He said: “I’ve loved my time at the club, so it was an easy decision for me. I’m really looking forward to getting going again in the Championship.
“I feel the league is more competitive and we’ve made a few good additions to an already strong squad, so I think it’s got the potential to be a good season for us.
“The main team goal has to be to survive and anything more is a bonus but I’m confident we can do this comfortably and push on up the table.
“Personally, I missed half a season last year due to a lengthy ban and an injury, so the goal for 2022 is to just be playing week in, week out to the best of my ability.”
His younger brother Shane Toal, who is a Scotland international, has also recently signed a new contract extension until 2024 with the Raiders.
Head coach Paul Crarey is pleased with the way the squad is taking shape and he said: “Danny really upped his fitness levels this year which gives him that bit extra as a middle.
“His line-breaking ability and support play give him that little X-factor and enables him to be a regular try scorer.
“Add this to his competitive nature and toughness so it’s great to have him back on board for 2022.”
Barrow were promoted as League One champions and will look forward to county derby clashes with the runners-up Workington Town and Whitehaven net season in the Championship.
