A man will be sentenced by a judge later this month for an assault and also being twice the legal drink-drive limit in a north Cumbria town.
Jonathan Mather, 39, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today and faced two charges.
Mather pleaded guilty to one offence of assault by beating which was committed against a female at Longtown on May 11 this year.
He also admitted driving with excess alcohol, at Bank Street in Longtown, on May 10. Court papers from a previous hearing in front of magistrates show that he had 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35mcg.
Judge Andrew Jefferies QC adjourned the case after Mather’s barrister, Judith McCullough, requested the preparation of a pre-sentence report produced by the probation service.
Mather, of Westmorland Street, Barrow, is due to receive his punishment for the two offences from a judge at the crown court on November 23.
In the meantime, he was granted conditional bail.
*Mather had previously pleaded not guilty to a charge alleging that he caused the same woman grievous bodily harm at Longtown on May 11. The judge directed that this charge should lie on the court file.
