Workington Town have signed one of the top amateur players in Cumbria, the strong-running Wath Brow centre Curtis Teare.
The 22-year-old Teare has joined the Derwent Park club on a two-year-deal and Town won the race for his signature ahead of several rivals.
The Town coach Chris Thorman said: “I’m really pleased that Curtis has decided to join us. Like a few of the players we’ve recruited from the community game, he’s achieved everything there is to achieve at that level and he’s now ready to challenge himself in the professional game – something I have absolute confidence that he’ll be successful in.
“He has all the attributes to be a top line winger or centre and I could actually see him playing in the back row one day because of how well he carries the ball.
“He’s aware of the hard work ahead of him and I’m sure he’ll flourish in our environment. I can’t wait to get to work with him in pre-season.”
Hornets coach Ian Rooney has guided Teare through his senior career and said: “Town are signing a quality young man and he goes with the best wishes of everyone at Wath Brow Hornets.
“He’s been a Hornet from birth really and he’s shone in the amateur game. The natural progression is to challenge himself and I’m certain he’ll do very well.
“He is a very talented young man who will only get better in a semi-professional environment. I’m sure Chris and his team will develop Curtis and he has the attributes to be a real asset for Town as he was for us.
“Good luck Curtis and well done from myself and all at the Hornets.”
His father Scott Teare was a former Wath Brow player who turned professional with Whitehaven.
