Divers are set to inspect the damage to a West Cumbrian bridge over the next two days.
Cocker Bridge, to the east of Cockermouth and which connects Market Place to Main Street, was closed on Saturday night to pedestrians and traffic after cracks appeared in the middle of the road.
It is believed damage was caused by the recent bad weather and flooding in the town.
A Cumbria County Council statement said: “Detailed inspection, including by dive teams, is expected on Monday and Tuesday, subject to conditions.
“Thank you for your patience. We understand the inconvenience the closure creates, but public safety has to be our priority. We will provide further updates following the inspections.”
Diversions are in place.
