Cumbria’s crime commissioner has launched his plan for policing for the next four years.
Peter McCall has today launched his four-year Police and Crime Plan for 2021-2025 and has thanked the public for their input.
The Police and Crime Plan sets out the policing priorities for the Commissioner and the Chief Constable. The plan has been developed following public consultation asking people to identify what is important to them, the policing knowledge from the Chief Constable linked to national policing priorities and input from the Police and Crime Panel.
Talking about the new Police and Crime Plan, Peter McCall said: “One of the key roles of a Police and Crime Commissioner is to produce a Police and Crime Plan and am delighted to be launching this new plan which sets out the direction for policing in Cumbria for the next few years.
“Since my re-election in May, I have adopted a range of consultation methods, to gather the views from key stakeholders, partners and people living and working in Cumbria. I am grateful to everyone who let me know their thoughts on what they think the policing priorities should be.
“A number of clear emerging themes have been identified and these have enabled me to make sure local people have their ‘voice’ reflected within the plan.
“This new plan focuses on key areas of work such as focusing on victims, visible policing, preventing offenders from reoffending, engaging with the public to be their voice on policing matters and integrating blue light services.
“It will form the basis of how I hold the force to account on behalf of you the public, and as part of that process, I will keep people regularly updated on the force’s performance towards your priorities, on my website.”
Chief Constable Michelle Skeer, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “I believe that the Police and Crime Plan set out by the Police and Crime Commissioner provides clear direction on policing priorities over the next four years. I would like to thank all who have taken the time to contribute their feedback on what they feel the police service in Cumbria should look like.
“We, along with our communities and wider society, have experienced unprecedented and unique challenges in recent years. I am proud to say that our police force has achieved huge successes in tackling criminality and keeping people safe, whilst managing the challenges that have impacted us all.
“We are far from complacent and always strive to further improve the service we provide to the public. Through focusing on crime and the causes of crime we can work with our partner agencies to establish the root cause of issues and tackle them from inception in a more proactive, rather than reactive, manner.
“With officers and staff working from bases in our towns, we can be at the forefront of tackling crime and anti-social behaviour whilst providing a visible and effective police presence to keep our communities safe.
“Our mission is to deliver an outstanding police service to keep Cumbria safe and I am confident that both delivery of the ‘Big Three’: tackling criminality, helping those in need and connecting with communities, whilst working together with the Police and Crime Plan will achieve this.”
