
L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One leaders, Station Road B, needed the final ball in a fantastic comeback against fellow top tier opponents, Workington Golf Club.
In what was ultimately a brilliant away performance captain Stephen O’Hagan delivered the final black ball blow in a 3-2 victory.
Up first for the home team Bryan Walker made short work of his frame to win the game easily and with Ryan Ismay taking out current county champion Kevin Kirkham in the next, the Golf Club gained a surprising 2-0 lead.
Shaun Ayre suppressed his usual attacking style to steady the ship in frame three and with a gritty display he started the Station B comeback with a victory.
Peter O’Hagan maintained his unbeaten league run in the next and with an equally solid performance he took his team to a decider at 2-2.
In the final frame of the contest the inevitable safety-first policy ensued as the frame and match went all the way to the black. Keeping his cool it was Station B anchor man and captain Stephen O’Hagan who yet again delivered under pressure to nick the game 3-2 in a division 1 classic.
Station A are top of Division One on 24 points with the Golf Club third on 20 points.
Workington’s Veterans Club B turned over club rivals Vets A, 3-2 in a fantastic performance for the lower divisional side.
Shane Evitts made it five league wins out of five in the first as he put Vets B 1-0 up and with Sal Cakmak delivering his best performance of the season by some distance in frame two the Vets B side were quickly 2-0 to the good.
Frame three was a much closer affair and even though it went to the black it was Vets B who took the frame again with a win from captain Geoff Banton.
The next saw Vets A captain Kevin Basnett take a near 50 point lead but as he was pegged back he still needed the last few balls to fall over the line and pull one back for 3-1.
The last saw Steve Garroway continue in his recent run of form and with a solid victory a valuable point was obtained in a 3-2 defeat. Vets A stay fourth in Division One on 16 points and even though Vets B remain second in Division Two on 14 points they have a game in hand over the leaders.
Division One’s Workington Conservative Club were pushed hard at Division Two’s United Club but in a professional performance it was the higher placed side who ran out 3-2 winners.
A black ball victory for Julian Plaza in the first enabled him to continue his unbeaten run and with a straightforward victory in the next it was Richard McCarthy who made 2-0 in favour of the Cons.
Nevertheless a break of 30 in frame three was enough for Clive Lister to defeat two time county champion Alan Moore for 2-1 but with Stuart Shepherd winning a high-scoring fourth frame the Cons outfit gained an unassailable lead at 3-1.Damage limitation was the goal in the last frame of the match for the United Club side and with a confident display it was captain Andrew Mitchelhill who did exactly that to bring the final score back to 3-2 while keeping his own chances of a Division Two leading player award still alive.
