Man dies following A66 crash

A man has died following a serious collision on the A66 near Kirby Thore.

Police were called at 5.19am today to the report of a two-vehicle collision involving two HGVs.

One of the drivers, a man in his 60s from the North Lincolnshire area, died at the scene.

The second driver, a man in his 20s from west Yorkshire, was taken to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle with serious injuries, not believed to be life-threatening.

The road closure remains in place while officers continue their investigation and recovery of the vehicles takes place.

The road is estimated to be open at 4pm and drivers are asked to seek alternative routes.
