The McLuckie brothers – Morris and Wayne – won Workington Victoria’s show race held in the town’s Union Jack club.
It’s been a good show season for the brothers, who race in both the Victoria club and Workington Social Limit as they have won three shows and picked-up several other tickets.
The bird that caught the eye in this latest success is a young chequer hen they bred off birds obtained from Les Green and Alfie Hawthorn. Those birds have been racing well for the brothers.
Judging this particular show was John Edgar of Keswick, unable to race now in his home town but who with son Andrew, has regularly supported shows in the west of the county for a number of years.
He gave tickets out of 90 entries to: 1, 7. McLuckie bros; 2, Fitzsimmon and son; 3, Bromley and co; 4, Kenmare and son; 5, Mr and Mrs Carter and sons; 6, Rodgers and Benn; 8, Williams and Hadfield.
The race next year will be from Marlborough or its equivalent and there is £266 in the pot to fly for, including nomination.
