Workington Reds’ COVID-19 sick list has grown since Saturday as they look anxiously towards the next game at home to Glossop North End.
Reds had four missing for the 1-0 home win over promotion rivals Clitheroe – an increase of two since the derby clash at Kendal on January 27.
However, since the weekend the figure has moved up to five, while Reds also have centre-half Dan Wordsworth nursing a hole in the knee as a result of a last-minute foul.
“It’s something that changes from day to day and is going to affect everybody as we go forward.
“The injuries have been bad enough for us this season but now when you add Covid into the mix it can create massive problems,” said manager Chris Willcock.
With Scott Allison and Louis Rowe also sidelined through long-term injuries Willcock has added to his squad by recruiting experienced forward Scott Fenwick.
At the moment, however, Reds are waiting for international clearance as Fenwick’s last club was Forfar Athletic.
Secretary Alec Graham applied for the clearance as soon as he was asked but both FA offices in England and Scotland, didn’t open until today.
“Obviously I’m hoping we can get the necessary permission sorted for Scott to be included in the squad for Saturday,” said Graham.
Reds have also put in a couple of seven days notice of approach for players – likely to be defenders – but so far there has been no up-date on those.
The West Cumbrians currently trail leaders Marine by four points and in turn hold a four point advantage over third-placed Warrington Rylands.
All three have played 21 matches in a 38-game season.
