Burnley defender Anthony Glennon has joined Barrow on loan for the rest of the season.
Having originally come through the ranks at Liverpool, 22-year-old Glennon has been with the Turf Moor side since the summer of 2018.
Glennon, who played alongside England’s Trent Alexander-Arnold for Croxteth Park in his youth, was on the books at Liverpool from under-6 level and went right through their academy to star for the under-18’s under Steven Gerrard.
Having been released from Anfield at the end of 2017/18, he was quickly snapped up by Burnley after catching the eye during a short trial and he’s made big progress at Turf Moor since then.
Operating on the left side of defence Glennon captained Burnley’s under-23s and his form was rewarded with a place on the bench for The Clarets’ Premier League game against Manchester City in April 2019.
After signing a contract extension, Glennon led the under-23s on an impressive run at the start of 2019/20 before being allowed to join Grimsby Town on loan where he delivered a number of standout performances before the season was curtailed due to COVID-19.
Last term, the talented defender was part of Sean Dyche’s first-team squad, making a couple of appearances from the bench before being handed a full debut in the FA Cup against Bournemouth.
With Joe Grayson currently out of action with an Achilles problem, manager Mark Cooper was keen to strengthen at the back and highly-rated Glennon immediately became a target.
The defender has been handed squad number 19 and, subject to clearance, will go straight into contention for his debut in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Barnsley.
