Barrow’s new defender Anthony Glennon believes the spirited performance at Barnsley, albeit in defeat, can give the team confidence for the rest of the league season ahead.
Glennon, who only trained with the squad on Friday, scored the first equaliser to make it 2-2 and had a strong game in the eventual 5-4 extra-time FA Cup defeat.
“The lads have been great with me and I’ve settled in really well. I certainly can’t forget my Barrow debut, not just for my goal but for the way we fought back with ten men.
“They were all geeing each other up at half-time, believing we could do it and we very nearly did. I thought we had a good handball shout for a penalty and some of the lads were convinced it should have been given,” he said.
Glennon had been told earlier in the week by his club Burnley that there could be a loan move in prospect but it didn’t happen because of a couple more Covid cases at Turf Moor.
“It happened quickly in the end. I was training with Burnley at 10.30am and at noon I was with Barrow on the training pitch,” he said.
Glennon has already had one loan spell away from Burnley, playing 12 games for Grimsby in 2020 when he also found the net once.
“I’m looking forward to this second loan and I’m sure that we can build on that performance in the cup and make progress up the league. I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
