The cost of mooring boats on Windermere is set to rise with proposals to be scrutinised at a meeting this week.
Holiday moorings and berths – covering April to October – would increase by five per cent and permanent moorings by two per cent under the planned fee changes.
The proposals are to be discussed by South Lakeland District Council’s lake administration committee this week, ahead of a final decision on the council’s 2022/23 budget being made next month.
A report produced prior to tomorrow’s committee meeting said fees and charges on the lake would increase ‘by an average of two per cent’.
The report says: “Other fees will increase further where needed to cover actual costs or, where demand outstrips supply – such as storage, holiday moorings and daily slipway-launching due to staycations – then fees have been increased due to demand.
“Other fees have remained the same, such as pump-out costs, to encourage the use of this facility.”
Among the other price rises are an increase of six per cent in daily slipway charges for motorised craft of up to 11m and a rise of two per cent in the licence fees for rowing boats and sailing dinghies.
The cost of jetty berths is to increase by two per cent (three per cent for winter berths).
The report, produced by Sion Thomas, SLDC operational lead for delivery and commercial services, advises the lake administration committee to approve the proposed changes to fees.
The report also advises the committee to give the go-ahead for the fee changes to be built into the 2022/23 budget.
A final decision on the next budget is to be made on February 22.
The lake administration committee is responsible for setting annual fees and charges on Windermere.
When setting charges, the committee is asked to take account of ‘service demand, equity and value for money and the budget strategy and medium-term financial plan requirements of the district council’, as well as the requirements of the corporate charging policy.
