
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after an alleged attack in Carlisle.
Detectives are investigating after a woman was grabbed from behind by a man in the city centre in the early hours of yesterday morning are appealing for witnesses or anyone who can assist with their investigation to come forward.
The alleged attack is reported to have taken place at around 3am in the vicinity of The Griffin pub, Botchergate.
A 19-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man who assaulted her.
On Sunday evening, detectives arrested a 41-year-old local man on suspicion of attempted rape. He is currently in police custody.
Detectives are keen to trace anyone who was in the area and may have information that could help.
They are particularly keen to hear from a young woman in a brown jacket who helped the victim immediately after the incident.
Officers are looking to speak with her as she may be able to assist with enquiries.
