In a remarkable conclusion to the January transfer window Carlisle United signed four players in the final 40 minutes before transactions closed.

They had set the ball rolling early in the afternoon with the completion of a loan deal for Birmingham City defender Mitchell Roberts.

Then late on, in a flurry of activity, the Brunton Park club added four more players to the payroll, one of them on loan until the end of the season.

Joining on loan is 20-year-old forward Owen Windsor from West Brom where he has featured regularly in the Albion’s PL2 team during the first half of the campaign.

He has played 18 times across all competitions and scored five goals for the Throstles and this will be his fifth loan placement.

He came to prominence with Chichester Town with six goals in 17 games as a precocious 17-year-old, which earned him a move to West Brom in 2019.

He was loaned briefly back to Chichester and has also spent time on loan at Taunton Town, Grimsby Town and Newport County. His longest spell was at Grimsby where he scored once in 13 outings.

Carlisle boss Keith Millen has been looking for more fire power and as well as Windsor he has signed two other forwards.

Kristian Dennis has been recruited from St. Mirren while Tobi Sho-Silva has joined from Sutton Town. Both are permanent signings.

Manchester-born Dennis, 31, had gone north of the border for the first time when he signed for St. Mirren in 2020 and he has gone on to play 30 times with three goals.

He started with Macclesfield in 2008 and then spent a number of years in non-league with Woodley Sports, Mossley, Curzon Ashton and Stockport County.

His most prolific spell was with Curzon in the NPL when he scored 72 goals in 82 games.

He got his first Football League chance with Chesterfield in 2016 and with the Spireites managed 27 goals in 78 appearances.

In 2018 he signed a three year deal with Notts County after a reported £150,000 move from Chesterfield where he scored 16 goals in 54 games.

He spent time on loan at Grimsby Town in 2019, scoring  one goal in 13 appearances before moving to St. Mirren in 2020 where he has made 13 starts, 26 used sub appearances and scored six goals.

Fellow forward Tobi Sho-Silva has joined the Blues on an 18-month contract from Sutton United for an undisclosed fee.

The London-born 26-year-old striker began his career as a youth player with Charlton and had loan spells with Welling and Inverness Caledonian Thistle before joining Bromley in 2016.

Having netted 11 goals that season, he made the switch to Dover, where he spent two seasons, before heading north to Halifax.

He netted eight goals in 30 outings for the Shaymen, and that attracted interest from Sutton, who captured his signature in the summer of 2020. With Sutton he has scored four goals in 42 games.

The fifth signing of the day, and probably the biggest surprise was the return of Jamie Devitt to Brunton Park on a short-term deal.

In a three-year stay between 2016 and 2019 he scored 22 goals in 130 appearances.

He signed for Blackpool in the summer of 2019, where he had loan moves to Bradford and Newport before penning a deal with Barrow in January 2021.

He has scored once in 22 outings for the Bluebirds but the bulk of those were last season as he has been dogged by injury this time round.
