
Division Two leaders The United Club produced the shock of the season so far to defeat Division One’s Station Road B 3-2 in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League.
In the battle between the two Workington sides, Station B’s century break maker Kevin Kirkham gave the away side the best possible start.
However, as Division Two’s leading player Clive Lister took the second the United Club levelled the fixture.
A victory for Peter O’Hagan put Station B in front again at 2-1 but back came United Club again with a win from team captain Andrew Mitchelhill that included a 36 break to boot.
In the decider, the usually reliable Station B captain, Stephen O’Hagan, came up against an extremely determined Mark Suitor and with a surprisingly comfortable win, it was the United Club cueist who delivered the match win to the delight of his teammates.
The United Club sit at the top of Division Two on 28 points and Station Road B remain second in Division One on 38 points.
Workington Conservative Club
Travelling Division One leaders Workington Conservative Club took their winning run to eleven games with a 5-0 whitewash of fellow townies and top tier opponents Station Road A to move three points ahead of their closest rivals Station Road B.
Richard McCarthy and Dave Holland opened up with wins in the first two frames and as former county champion Alan Moore took the next it was soon 3-0 to the Cons side.
A black ball win for Ryan Barker made it 4-0 and with Julian Plaza proving victorious in the last the drubbing was complete. Cons are top of the Division on 41 points with Station A bottom on 25 points.
Workington Veterans Club
Workington’s Veterans Club A maintained their third place in Division One with a 3-2 home win against Division Two’s Maryport Social.
A battling black ball victory for Vets A captain Kevin Basnett got the match going and even though Vets A led the second frame for the duration a fortunate pot on the final ball by Maryport’s Andrew Sharp was enough to level the match score.
A convincing win for Paul Smith put the Vets A outfit 2-1 up and in taking the fourth the home side extended their lead to 3-1.
The last saw a much-improved Gary Miller deliver yet another solid performance and in winning relatively comfortably he put some respectability in the scoreline by helping Maryport pull back a point in a match-ending 3-2 result.
Vets A sit third in Division One on 30 points and Maryport Social remain bottom of Division Two on 12 points.
Workington Golf Club
Finally, Workington Golf Club ensured they kept within Division One’s top four with a 3-2 home win against Division Two’s Veterans Club B.
The Golf Club’s Bryan Walker won the first with a fantastic pot on the pink and as Ryan Ismay proved victorious in the next a 2-0 lead was established.
A black ball win for Stephen Jackson took it to 3-0 but with another victory on the final ball this time it was Vets B’s turn to put a point on the board as Sal Cakmak made it 3-1.
The final frame of the match saw Vets B continue where they left off in frame four and with one of the most one sided victories of the week Paul Vickers delivered in style to end the match just one frame adrift at 3-2.
Workington Golf Club are fourth in Division One on 28 points and Vets B are second in Division Two on 23 points.
