Cleator Moor Celtic continue to edge away from relegation danger in the North West Counties League.
A 2-0 home win over Chadderton completed a double against the Oldham side who are chasing a promotion play-off place.
The win lifted Celtic up to 11th in the table, but still just six points above the drop zone with seven games remaining.
Manager Martin Mahone said: “It was a very important win for us and thoroughly deserved. We were strong and controlled the game for long periods.
“The bonus as well was getting a clean sheet against a decent team. They had a couple of decent chances late on and our keeper Craig Rule made a couple of fine saves.”
Celtic had gone in front on 11 minutes when their top scorer Jay Wetherill notched his 23rd goal of the season as he headed home a Tom Ward corner. Only three players have scored more in the First Division North.
The second goal came on 58 minutes from Darren Little when his low shot was deflected into the bottom corner. Then Wetherill could have had another but fired into the side-netting.
There was another opportunity for Ryan Hall with a one-on-one with the keeper but he couldn’t finish.
In a frantic finish Chadderton had a couple of opportunities but were denied by excellent Rule stops.
Celtic travel to Nelson on Saturday with their hosts lying eighth in the table, just four points better off, although they do have two games in hand.
