Dan Hanford, the Carlisle United goalkeeping coach since June 2021, has left the club by mutual consent.
The 30-year-old Welshman actually played 37 games for the Blues between 2014 and 2016.
Announcing his departure United say he has taken a step back from first-team affairs and has left the club.
He has been part of the backroom staff for eight months, involved in the day-to-day training of the club’s stoppers.
On the club website, Carlisle United said: “Everyone at the club thanks Dan for his work and efforts over the course of the past eight months and we wish him well for the future.”
Hanford had started his youth career with home town club Swansea, before switching to Rochdale for three years without making a senior appearance.
He started in non-league with Clitheroe, making 62 appearances and then had a brief spell with the Spanish club Jerez before returning to Britain where he had 15 outings for Hereford United before the club was wound up in the High Court.
Hanford had left by them and was playing in Malta when the Bulls ceased to exist and across two seasons on the island played 58 games for Floriana.
That prompted a return to the UK and he signed for Carlisle where two years saw him play 37 times.
Following his stay at Brunton Park, he had two seasons at Gateshead, playing 52 times before switching to Southport and notching up 74 appearances.
