New COVID-19 grants for Carlisle businesses

A new coronavirus business grants scheme has been launched in Carlisle.

Carlisle City Council is encouraging eligible local businesses to apply for a new version of a government-backed grant made available to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A relaunched Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) is available from today for eligible businesses.

This is the third time the ARG scheme has been in operation since the start of the pandemic and is open to businesses who have continued to trade throughout the financial years 2019/20 and 2020/21.

Carlisle City Council has received £210,486 funding.

Grants are available for businesses that have been severely negatively impacted specifically by the rise of the Omicron Coronavirus variant.

Grants of between £600 and £2,000 may be available to eligible businesses depending on how much their turnover has been affected.

This scheme will close on Friday March 18. However, should the demand for ARG outstrip the funding allocation, then the council reserves the right to close the scheme at an earlier date.

To apply, and see a full description of the eligibility criteria, businesses should go to the council’s website at: www carlisle.gov.uk/ARG

The council has previously administered other government grant schemes and is also administering the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant.

Criteria and online application form are available at https://www.carlisle.gov.uk/news-and-events/business-support
