Police are investigating after a man was found seriously injured by the A595 in West Cumbria.

It is believed the man, in his 30s and from the area, was struck by a vehicle.

Police were called shortly after midnight on Sunday, March 27, following a report of a man with a serious head injury by the roadside at Clints roundabout, north of Egremont.

The man was taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he remains in a critical condition.

A 35-year-old man from the West Cumbria area was arrested at the scene on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a road accident, failing to report a road accident and drink driving.

Investigators are working to piece together what happened and are extremely keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident or the moments leading up to it – or anyone who has any information or was in the area at the time and may be able to assist officers with their investigation.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who has dashcam and was in the area at the time. Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit quoting incident number 3 of 27th March 2022 or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
