A charity is to hold a ‘foodie cruise’ on Ullswater to raise vital funds in response to a rise in demand for services.
As energy costs spike and inflation starts to bite, South Lakes Citizens Advice is continuing to see increasing levels of people requiring support.
In an effort to generate much-needed funds, the charity will hold the cruise on June 23.
The event will see 2019 MasterChef champion Irini Tzortzoglou create a selection of Greek delicacies for guests to enjoy aboard the M.Y. Raven which is being made available free of charge for the event by Ullswater Steamers.
Guests will also be able to sample a selection of fine wines.
“There is a widespread belief that Citizens Advice is an arm of government and funded like other local government bodies, however, this is not the case,” said John Batty, director at South Lakes Citizens Advice.
“Citizens Advice is a network of independent local charities which rely to a significant extent on grants and donations to provide vitally important services to the local community.
“In South Lakes, we offer support on issues such as welfare benefits, consumer rights, unemployment, housing and debt. Demand for those services is only increasing as energy costs spike and inflation starts to bite.”
Food and drinks will generously be provided free of charge by Booths and local businesses such as Lakeland, Hawkshead Relish, Shed 1 Gin and Lakeland Artisan have donated prizes for a raffle.
Irini will also hold a Q&A about her MasterChef journey and her future plans.
Live music and olive oil tasting will also be among the activities on the night.
All proceeds from the event will go to support the day-to-day activities of Citizens Advice in South Lakes.
Irini said: “I am very pleased to be able to play a part in this event. Citizens Advice is such a worthy cause and deserves the backing of all who care about those in our community who depend on the core services which the charity offers. And of course, a cruise on Ullswater on a beautiful midsummer evening should be a wonderful occasion so I do hope the public will be supportive.”
