A Carlisle man accused of trying to commit a child sex offence has elected to have his case heard at the city’s crown court.
Neil Perrett, aged 62, faces one charge. He is alleged to have attempted to engage in sexual communication with a child between November 1 and November 7, 2020.
Court papers alleged that Perrett intentionally attempted to communicate with a female “who you did not reasonably believe to be 16 or over”.
In a brief outline at Carlisle magistrates’ court this morning, prosecutor Pam Ward alleged that Perrett had “communications with an undercover police officer”.
From the dock, Perrett indicated a plea of not guilty to the allegation.
He was represented by solicitor Anthony Wilson and elected to have his case heard at Carlisle Crown Court.
Perrett, of Burnett Road, Harraby, was granted bail on the condition that he has no unsupervised contact with any child aged under 18. He is due to appear in front of a judge at the crown court on May 27.
