Penrith have been getting mixed messages about their immediate future in the Northern League.
By finishing second bottom in Division One, the Frenchfield club was expecting to sample Division Two football next season.
But immediately after the last game was completed, a 4-1 home defeat to Seaham Red Star, stories abounded of a reprieve.
Chairman Billy Williams said: “We have not had any official word about what’s happening.
“Rumours continue to circulate that we have been reprieved and a couple of clubs have even been in touch to congratulate us on staying up.
“But until we get official word we can’t think about where we will be playing. It’s still fingers crossed.”
Penrith have today advertised for a new manager to take over from Chris Humphrey who was sacked following the final game of the season.
Williams said: “We have an open mind and will wait to see who applies but I think it’s fair to say we would like an early appointment so that the new man can get his squad together and map out his pre-season before we start again.
“Everyone is hoping we will still be in Division One.”

Tonight the Frenchfield Stadium is staging the Cumbria County Cup final between Carlisle City and Wetheriggs Utd.
