Sam Medhurst, a 20-year-old seam bowler from Netherfield will make his senior Cumbria debut on his home ground on Sunday,
Cumbria play the second of their NCCA T20 Trophy fixtures at home to Shropshire with Medhurst coming into the starting line-up.
Medhurst has come through the age-group ranks with Cumbria to earn his chance with the seniors, who started the season at the weekend with two wins over Northumberland.
Cumbria President Eric Carter said: “We have to be aware now of keeping our average age down but it’s also an opportunity to give these promising young players experience of games at this level.”
Richard Gleeson, the Lancashire bowler who was allowed to test his fitness with Cumbria against Northumberland, is not playing against Shropshire.
But he will return to the Cumbria line-up in place of Medhurst for a follow-up fixture against Cheshire at Toft on Bank Holiday Monday. The sides play two games against each other on both days.
Gleeson took 2-20 from four overs in both games against Northumberland when Cumbria won by 33 runs and the by five runs in the follow-up contest.
Cumbria will make one other change for Bank Holiday Monday at Toft with Keswick’s James McGown coming in for Sam Sharp.
